The Power of a Positive Attitude

Our training groups contintue……..
After coffee and bacon butties we took a few moments to review our experiences since the last meeting in January which explored the subject of Goals & Goal Setting. This element of the session is especially important and it reinforces learning and leads into the subject of the day.
We started by reviewing exactly what an attitude is because it’s difficult to maintain a positive attitude is one doesn’t know what an attitude is.
The definition we used is that an attitude is a “state of being associated with a particular person, object, situation or event” determined by the way that we think and feel and expressed in our behaviour – the things that we do.
What followed was a great discussion as to how our thoughts, our consciousness, interacts with other people and the environment.
We all know people we would describe as negative: dream stealers – pessimists (“no I’m a realist”) – the critic – devils advocates – always seeing the obstacles – the “That’ll never work” and “I can’t” brigade.
Then there are the people who we would describe as optimistic, positive, enthusiastic! – more likely to look at the possibilities and say “I can and I will”
3 questions:
- Who do you likethe most?
- Who do you thing is (statistically) likely to be the more successful?
- And
- Would you say you are viewed as Positive or Negative
Let’s face it though, even the most positive will have ‘challenges’ that may ‘affect their state of mind’: A tremendous business deal has just collapsed; your lottery numbers come up and you haven’t bought a ticket; a loved one is taken seriously ill; an argument; – there are a million different things that can impact on how we feel but if we recognise and acknowledge that being able to maintain a positive attitude is key to us getting great results, what can we do to get ourselves back on track?
